The Unsoloable: Legion Edition

Emerald Nightmare

Ursoc (Mythic)

Mythic Ursoc hits so damn hard. I think my best attempt was at ilevel 440, and I got him down to 20 percent or so. This WILL be soloable eventually, via improved gear, but it might be closer to the end of BFA.

Dragons of Nightmare (Mythic)

At 90 percent health, the Dragons spawn a Lumbering Mindgorger behind one of the portals in the arena. The Mindgorger will channel Devour Nightmare for 80 seconds, upon which he will instantly wipe the raid. Since you can’t enter the portals while soloing, this means you have 80 seconds to defeat the Dragons before you’re dead. This interacts painfully with the Slumbering Nightmare effect, which WILL put you to sleep for 30 seconds during the Devour Nightmare cast. Thus, the DPS requirement is incredibly high and pretty much unattainable by a Protection Warrior for the time being. I’ve now soloed them (in Fury spec, due to the high DPS requirements), so by definition they are no longer Unsoloable!

Trial of Valor (Mythic)

All bosses, probably

This is pure speculation, because I LOATHE this raid, but I’m guessing Mythic ToV is unsoloable based entirely on the difficulty I’ve had soloing the place on Heroic (which I’ve done, barely). UPDATE: I’ve successfully soloed Mythic Odyn with an ilvl of 440, and Guarm as Fury with a 440 ilvl.

Nighthold (Mythic)

Undetermined. I’ve been able to solo four Mythic bosses so far, and the ones I’ve failed at feel more like large gear checks rather than mechanical impossibilities.

Tomb of Sargeras (Mythic)

Undetermined. I’ve soloed Goroth, Demonic Inquisition, Harjatan, and Sisters of the Moon. I’m guessing there will be mechanical problems preventing soloing of the later bosses (Sassz’ine, Desolate Host, Maiden, Avatar, Kil’jaeden).

Antorus

Imonar the Soulhunter (all difficulties)

Sleep Canisters. Why’d it have to be Sleep Canisters? Once you get hit by your first Canister, you’re done. Why? Because you can’t avoid the Canister, which puts you to sleep for 12 seconds, plus another 8 seconds when it wears off and you get hit by the resulting Slumber Gas. You’ll get hit by another Canister before the Gas wears off, so you’re basically sleep-locked until Imonar manages to kill you. I don’t see this fight ever being soloable unless Blizzard makes mechanical changes to the Sleep Canister ability. Update: Imonar IS soloable, if you go in as Fury and take a PvP trinket with you.

Coven of Shivarra (all difficulties)

Remember the Odyn fight in Trial of Valor, and the annoying Hymdall/Hyrja interaction? The Coven have a similar problem, thanks to Shivan Pact; unlike the Odyn fight, the Coven don’t do any long spell casts that allow you to split them up long enough to do any damage (Touch of Darkness is too short, and it only happens when Asara is active). Even if they did, they have a health pool at least an order of magnitude greater than the shielded Valarjar, PLUS all of the Titan torment phases, so it doesn’t seem soloable unless the Pact ability is either nerfed or removed.

Essence of Eonar (all difficulties)

I’m POSITIVE that this fight can’t be soloed on Mythic, due to the spaceship phase (hell, even large groups still have trouble doing this version of the fight). On lesser difficulties, I’m not 100 percent sure, but it certainly SEEMS unsoloable. The need to be in multiple places at once, plus waves of ranged mobs (damned bats), looks to be insurmountable for a melee class. I’d be happy to be proven wrong! UPDATE: I (somewhat) easily soloed this fight at ilvl 440!

Might be a little late, but have been able to solo Essence of Eonar on normal. just get quickly to the gates.

Awesome! Which class/spec did you use? My main concern (other than moving around quickly enough) is taking out the bat waves as melee.

Warrior (fury 428) can solo normal Essence of Eonar with no problem.

    • admin says:

Yeah, I just gave it another shot and did it pretty easily! I was worried about the bats, but they fly down to the platform level halfway through and are easy to nuke.

It’s possible to solo Imonar the Soulhunter on normal if you have the DPS as a fury warrior. If you use bladestorm just before he uses sleep canister he cant put you to sleep which gives you more time before he uses it a second time.

Just an update. Soloed Imonar as a *429 Fury warrior. I say 429 cause you can use a Season 9 Vicious Gladiator’s Medallion of Meditation from the Baradin Hold boss/bosses to get out of sleep. So i used bladestorm just before the first sleep canister and then when i was put to sleep with the second canister i popped the trinket which gets u out of sleep. Had enough dps to phase him to next phase. Easy after that!

You can also use Divine Shield in normal as a paladin while slept, doing so will remove the sleep and if timed properly prevent the next sleep since you’re immune. With that you should easily be able to DPS him down to phase two.

  5. Dennis says:

Its also possible as Havoc DH if you cast meta and is in the air while he cats the sleep.

Imonar is soloable, if you can take the damage and use any kind of pvp trinket (including the Heirloom one). I did it with Guardian Druid (ilvl435). Yes, you have to wait for about 1.5 minutes after you break sleep the first time (I didn’t got him down enough for next phase), but if you can take the damage, you’re totally fine. Just wait to break it after he just applied a new one.
I’m going to test it on BM Hunter too, with Cunning pet.

Imonar the Soulhunter can be soloed by a 450 DK just did it. had to swap to unholy to do it, hit with all dots, and all pet cds, literally everything at once before sleep. then have pet claw at em until he hits next phase and gg.

    • admin says:

Yeah, pet classes have it a bit easier for bosses that have weird abilities like the sleep canister. I finally managed it myself about 3 months ago with help from a PvP heirloom trinket.

Interesting. I’m a Disc Priest (ilevel 452) so it’s eclectic what I can solo and what I can’t. Can’t solo Odyn or the first boss of Emerald Nightmare. But I can solo the first three bosses of the Nighthold. Got stuck on Spellblade Alurial, but I’ve upped my gear a bit so I’ll try again next week. Didn’t think to go past Alurial to test myself against other Nighthold bosses. My dps is way lower than a dps class, but my damage absorption / healing is great. So I’m able to shrug off some mechanics that other classes might consider a dps check to avoid dying. All in all, it’s fun. Wish I was better geared so I could really test myself.

    • Vaugn says:

To be clear, the above refers to mythic stuff. On normal I noticed a lot of DPS said they had trouble on Varimathras because of his healing negation. As a disc priest I laughed that off, it was little more than just whacking at a target dummy and popping up absorb shields. On the flipside, I don’t have an interrupt so I can’t do Maiden. Kinda annoying. On normal I can do any boss unless it requires an interrupt or for minions to be separated (Maiden in Tomb of Sargeras, Coven in Antorus). Probably not Aggramar beacuse of the platform knockback either. Can do a ton of stuff on heroic as well.

      • admin says:

It really is interesting how much of a difference class and spec can make. The mightiest mythic-geared tank can die to a simple debuff or DoT that they can’t cleanse or dispel, while a healer with absorbs can triumph over Varimathras. And of course, there are those bosses with the “gotta keep ’em separated” mechanic that pet classes can solo an expansion earlier than anyone else.

  9. Vaugn says:

Very much so. Which gives me the idea for a website — a website that allows for discussions, tracking of world first kills., etc. etc. to solo each boss on the different skill levels. Wish I had the time to create it.

Free Action Potion doesn’t work against Imonar… That I know…

  11. Leche says:

Im sure this is less of a big deal at this point but I was able to solo all of the antorus bosses as a hunter on Heroic, havent tried mythic yet wanted a mog from heroic.

Imonar you have to cheese. Have your pets fight him while you feign death at the opposite end of the walkway. Once he hits phase 2 you just burn him.

Coven was super easy, you hold aggro on one, while your pets hold aggro on another, run away shoot the one fighting your pets.

Eonar was the hardest fight, until you learn a path. Once you know where to be at what point it becomes pretty easy.

    • admin says:

Yeah, with pet classes, the two soloing-unfriendly bosses (Imonar and Coven) become simple. For non-pet classes, you have to look for very small windows where you can burst DPS; in the case of Coven you get maybe 2 seconds of DPS every 30 seconds IF you manage to split them during the one cast that allows it. I found Eonar to be hectic fun, what with all the leaping around and such.
